7073 Miles to Taipei...

We left LAX at 466 mph Groundspeed and headed Northwest up to Alaska and over to Kamchatka, I assume to catch the airstream. Then we fly Southeast over Japan heading for our first destination - Taipei. What's the difference between ground speed and airspeed anyways? Anyone? Curently we are at 36,000 feet above the ground but I'm pretty sure we were at 39,000 feet before I fell to sleep. It's minus 48 degrees celcius outside the plane, so hopefully no one will open a window…

Taipei Airport at 5 am. Pretty quite. All the shops are closed. Karen said they were all open and I was mistaken… I hate it when I'm right… OK by 7:30 they were open but who wants $200 Taipei dollar purses anyways..?

Free Wifi Internet would not work for my Mac in Taipei. Don't know why, seemed to work for people with PC's. Hmmmmm...

Wrote a little bit before and posting now from the hotel, early Tuesday morning. Couldn't sleep at all last night...

Been in Bali for 2 nights now. First night stayed in the hotel and went to bed early, last night drank at Center Stage Bar in the Hard Rock and listened to the band, then went to Lagion with Eka and Digo. Had a drink in a bar right next to the Memorial from the 2001 bombings that killed a couple hundred people including 7 Amerikans. 2 Explosions one on each side of the bar we were in. Many Polisi there with machine guns. Bar we were in closed around 1:30. Raining some when we left. Saw a truck full of Polisi but everything was pretty cool. Lots of Techno music filling the streets from the clubs that were still open. Like before mostly Aussie's everywhere, haven't seen any Amerikans as far as I can tell. You can tell...

Pretty quite here now, rainy season and after the Holidays. Weather has been nice so far, though...

Leave for Ubud today at 11 with Eka and probably Digo. Ready to get out of Kuta, Ubud to me is the real Bali. Kuta is too touristy and too crowded for me...

Rotary tonight 6:30 at Cafe Luna - hope I can stay awake...

Dani California - out.

  1. ya know that thing called wind?
Groundspeed is how fast the seat of your pants is moving compared to the ground below, while airspeed is compared to the air around you. If the wind is blowing 200 mph the same direction you're going, your airspeed will be 200 mph slower than your groundspeed.
